#project330: The Bandit

My Love Letter continues this morning as we look at my 24th year.

I moved to Southern Mississippi the summer before my 24th birthday for my first post-college job. Before the move, I knew I wanted to adopt a dog; it was just a matter of me settling into my schedule and finding the right pooch.

I saw Lucy’s picture on Petfinder one slow afternoon, and I turned to my co-worker and said, “I’ve found my dog.”

I proceeded to visit the shelter, waffling over my decision to adopt her when she was unsure of me. On proceeding visits, I received tail wags and licks from the pup, only to then waffle over her size.

Long story short: I adopted Lucy about a month later, shortly before my 24th birthday, and our adventures together began. And the year of 24? It was all about us: hanging out, walking the neighborhood, visiting the dog park, going on car rides and enjoying the weather as often as we could.

Lucy added much-needed stability in my life that year. Being alone in a new town is hard, and Lucy made all the difference… and she’s continued to make a difference for the last six years.

Lucy “The Bandit” Belle and I are still going strong, and this fur child still has my heart.

Matt Bush - That does not seem like it has been six years ago ! It seems like it could have been last week. Lot of memories from our old bylines. If we would have came out of J-School 25 years ago we would have both been at major metros by now…

You got her right after you cut your arm at that Southern Miss game didn’t you ? I have a photo of all of us from that night. Ihink it was our first game as staffers

Lucy is still the only dog I know that does not like me.ReplyCancel
