The backstory: I am a professional photojournalist. I love photography, and I love my job because it has taken me to so many unexpected places. Over the years, I have learned I am the photo-question-answerer for my friends who are just picking up the craft. If you’ve ever met me, you know I enjoy answering questions and helping people out. And since I love what I do and I love helping people out, I want to spread the love.
The idea: You just got a fancy-pants DSLR. Or maybe you have an old camera. Or maybe you have a camera phone. But you want to learn more about photography and what you can do with it. I want to help you with this.
The promise: You’re going to learn. I’m going to learn. And we’re going to Step It Up through the weeks, learning about manual settings on your camera, learning about composition, learning about editing in Photoshop (note: when I say editing, I mean crops, color corrections and brightening images. We will not be Photoshopping pink elephants into your family portraits. You can learn those skills elsewhere on the Internet) and learning about photography, in general.
This is going to be a weekly series, and I’m really excited to share some of my knowledge with y’all.
This does not mean I am the be-all, end-all know-it-all on photography. I’m not, trust me. But I want to share my passion and I want to share my unique experiences as a photojournalist with you so YOU (yes, you!) can learn how to make better images.
It’s going to be a fun journey. Won’t you join me?
