Mile High City | Denver Travel Photographer

Photos in and around Denver, Co. (Erin Parker)
Last week, my mom, sister and I traveled from the South all the way out to Colorado – Denver, to be exact – for an interview for my sister and for a little mini family vacation.

Photos in and around Denver, Co. (Erin Parker)It had been a while since any of us had been in the state of Colorado, and it was quite different than our current cities and states. For one, it was about 60 degrees (and FELT like 60 degrees!) when we landed.

We flew in on Tuesday evening and landed just in time for the most spectacular and terrifying electrical storm of my life. Thankfully, it wasn’t storming when we landed, but we were slammed with rain, gale-force wind and lightning on our way into the Mile High City. Unfortunately, there is no photographic evidence of this, as I was a little frantic riding in the back seat of the cab and didn’t want to fumble through my luggage.

By the time we arrived at the hotel, many streets in the downtown area were flooded, and we didn’t want to get soaked, so we called it a night after a quick dinner.

The next two days, we spent finding our way around Downtown Denver, eating delicious food, checking out apartments and lofts in the area, hanging out and enjoying the company of our cousin Laura and her husband, Jonah, and just generally exploring the city.

Wednesday night, we went out to Longmont to eat dinner with Jonah and Laura, and while we were there, I was drawn to the clouds and the sunlight illuminating them. (If you aren’t a photographer, please don’t laugh. Sunlight painting anything is awesome and is especially awesome when the sun is setting over the mountains.)

So we went on a little walk through their neighborhood. We chatted. We went to see the prairie dogs (who were NOT hanging out outside of their homes at the time.) And I snapped photo after photo of the stunning clouds rolling across the landscape, the sunlight on them and the oncoming darkness and storm.

It goes without saying that we had a fantastic time.

This was the perfect mini family vacation, and I am so thankful that my mom, sister and I had the opportunity to travel together last week. And I look forward to the next time we’re all in the same state again! … I am crossing my fingers for another quick trip to Denver to move someone into her new place at the beginning of September if everything lines up perfectly!

When was the last time you went on a family vacation? Where did you go? And what did y’all do?

-or-

Where would you like to go on vacation next?
