We moved back to Louisiana at the beginning of June.
That first week, Winston, my mom and I got everything in order at our home. We refinished a 22-year-old table. We decorated. We hung countless photos and paintings throughout the house. We rearranged almost everything. And we cooked. A lot.
And since that week, I have been jetting around the area, taking photos of a variety of different people, things and events, and I cannot wait to share them with y’all. (A heads up: I have been photographing a lot for 225, a Baton Rouge monthly magazine. Nothing that I have photographed has been published – yet – but there will be a lot of photos in the coming months that I will be sharing once the magazines hit the newsstands!)
It feels good to be back in the swing of things. Photojournalism was one of those things that I knew I missed, but I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I was back in the thick of it. And now? I don’t know if I could ever go back to not doing this.
This morning, I’m drinking coffee while sitting here at our kitchen table – the one that my mom and I stripped, sanded and re-stained when we arrived in Louisiana – and thinking about how lucky I am as my pup, Lucy Belle, lies at my feet and stares me down. (No, seriously. She’s really good at the staring thing. Better than every other dog I’ve met, in fact.) I’m editing images from the assignments I have taken during the past week and feeling thankful for the opportunities I have been handed since moving from Nashville.
It is only July, and this summer has been amazing so far. It has offered so much more than I could have ever imaged. And there is still so much time left until fall shows up!
I cannot wait to see where it takes me and where this new journey leads.
What are you thankful for this beautiful Thursday morning?
